Tree work in Helena

Helena is up I-15 from our home base in Butte, and it is one of the communities we serve. We handle tree removal, pruning and stump grinding for houses in town, and our forestry division takes on the bigger jobs on the land around the Helena valley.

To get started, call or text (406) 490-0449 with your address and a photo of the tree. Jeremiah will set a time to come out, walk the property with you and give you a free estimate with your options laid out plainly.

Local conditions

Hillside pines and fire season

Helena backs right up to the hills, and plenty of homes sit in or beside ponderosa pine and Douglas fir. The mountain pine beetle outbreak that swept western Montana left standing dead pines on many of the slopes around town. A dead pine next to a house, a driveway or a power line does not get safer with time. It dries out, gets brittle and becomes harder to bring down in a controlled way.

Wildfire is part of life here too. Our forestry division clears fire breaks and defensible space with Tigercat equipment, mulching brush and small trees right on site and hauling out the bigger timber, and selective clearing keeps the trees you want. In the older neighborhoods closer to downtown, big shade trees need proper pruning to keep heavy limbs off roofs and lines.

Good to know

Helena questions

Do you come to Helena from Butte?

Yes. Helena is one of the communities we serve. Call or text (406) 490-0449 with the address and we will set a time for a free estimate.

Can you clear defensible space around a house in the hills?

Yes. Fire breaks and defensible space are part of our forestry division's work. We can thin or clear around the house, mulch brush and small trees on site, and leave standing the trees you want to keep.

I have dead pines on my property. Do they all need to come down?

Not always all at once, but dead trees near a house, a road or a line are a hazard and get harder to remove safely as they dry out. As an ISA Certified Arborist, Jeremiah can tell you which ones should come down first.
